Typeface Design in Context

This class will allow the students to reflect on the work they have accomplished so far in the design class, and to crystallize the knowledge acquired over the previous two terms. Lectures will focus on how typefaces are promoted, and on how typeface marketing materials is conceived. The term will culminate with a presentation document showing the evolution of their typeface and a poster promoting their typeface.

Fred Shallcrass is a typeface designer from Aotearoa, New Zealand. He develops typefaces, wordmarks and retail typeface families at Frere-Jones Type in New York, and he teaches typeface design at The New School.
