Sketching Type: Exploring Variables

In this two-day intensive, students will learn various sketching techniques to work efficiently, and explore ideas in a way that is fun and loose. This course will cover core principles of lettering and type design, and a special emphasis on extremes in weight and width.
About James Edmondson
After graduating from California College of the Arts, James received a masters from the TypeMedia program at The Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands. James lives in San Francisco, and runs OH no Type Company, an independent foundry focussed on display faces and expressive lettering. His book OHno Book Serious Guide to Irreverent Type Design was released in 2025.
