Introduction to Sign Painting: Casual Letters

This workshop will focus on the Casual Letter style, also known as single stroke or speed stroke, which is one of the most popular among sign painters today.
In this two-day introductory workshop students learn the basics of flat-edged brush writing with stroke by stroke instruction for the construction of each letter of the alphabet as well as numerals. Emphasis will also be on writing words with good letter and word spacing an special attention to the relationship of the “white space”.
No prior brush lettering experience is required. Handouts will be provided with the basic construction.
About Miguel Reyes
Miguel is a Mexican carpenter, letterer, type designer and occasional sign painter. He worked as a graphic designer and publication designer in Barcelona and Mexico City. He holds a Master Degree in Type Design from KABK (Royal Academy of Art) in the Hague and began working with Commercial Type at the beginning of 2013. His work has been honored by the New York Type Directors Club, the Latin American Biennial of Typography, and by the Fine Press Book Association.
