Interpolation
with
Andy Clymer
Interpolating two or more font masters to create intermediate styles can be an incredibly useful technique to use when developing a type family, but to really get good results there are many things to consider in the underlying structure of the font and in the family as a whole. Over the course of the workshop students will learn the techniques they need to plan to turn a single font style into a larger font family, interpolating two font masters into a range of weights, and how interpolation can even be useful earlier on in the design phase of a single style. Students will be using Python scripts to interpolate fonts in the RoboFont editor and will be introduced to more specialized tools for an interpolation workflow such as Prepolator, Superpolator and UFO Stretch.
