Drop Cap, Monograms & Illustrated Word
with

The recipes for a successful piece of lettering and a gorgeous illustration share many key ingredients: a thorough, iterative sketching process; a laser-eye on consistency and rhythm; and a strong concept go a long way. This hands-on six-week course is designed to fuse the two worlds together, with iterative drawing exercises, one-on-one feedback sessions, gobs of theory, and workflow tips for making this work more manageable. Over the span of the course, lectures and projects will be structured to gradually add complexity and intensity: increasing the number of letters, our approach to color, and the level of detail in the composition.
This course is intended for Illustrators looking to incorporate letterforms, and Graphic and Type Designers who want to add illustrative elements to their work. Experience drawing and making images is strongly encouraged. The theories and projects in this course are designed to add to your arsenal, and will be relevant for recent design/illustration grads as well as professionals looking to expand their skillset.
