Type@Cooper

The Continuing Education Department of The Cooper Union, in partnership with Letterform Archive, offers a post graduate certificate in Typeface Design, public workshops and a lecture series in San Francisco, California. This certificate program is the equivalent of the Extended program that has been offered on campus in NYC since 2010.

Certificate Program

Top industry professionals lead a highly focused and comprehensive study of key typeface design principles: techniques, technology, aesthetics, expression, history, and theory. Students explore the foundation of typography in depth by creating their own typefaces in hands-on classes, while developing a broad understanding of the field through lectures, discussions, and research.

Public Classes & Workshops

Courses are offered to provide training in lettering, type history, typeface design, technology and production to anyone wishing to build skills and their knowledge base.

Lecture Series

This Lecture Series is a part of Type@Cooper which is open to the public. The lectures thematically follow the overall curriculum of the program, offering students a deeper insight into specific and relevant topics. Lectures are co-sponsored by Letterform Archive, and the San Francisco Public Library. The lectures will take place in the Koret Auditorium at the San Francisco Public Library. The series is generously sponsored by Adobe Typekit.
